SUBSURFACE LANDFILL FIRE SUPPRESSION AND MONITORING

A Case Study at the Campbell Mountain Landfill, Penticton, British Columbia

Initial Monitoring Results.
As mentioned previously, initial temperature readings and gas concentration measurements were collected in the North Ravine to establish background and initial conditions, and to provide a benchmark for the comparison of future monitoring.

A) Initial Temperature Monitoring Results.
The temperatures were obtained by installing each Thermistor in the appropriate well and allowing at least one hour for the string to equilibrate. The Thermistors were then removed from the wells in order to prevent any possible damage or loss during the installation of the clay cover.
